What Is Needle Felting?
Needle felting is the process of shaping loose sheep's wool using a special felting needle. This needle has tiny barbs along its tip. As it is repeatedly inserted into the wool, the fibers become entangled and gradually condense together.
This technique makes it possible to create three-dimensional sculptures, shapes, and even flat decorative designs. Unlike wet felting, needle felting requires no water or soap—just wool, a felting needle, and a little patience.
Needle felting allows for an exceptional level of precision. Fine details can be added, shapes can be built up or modified, and each piece can be refined step by step. For me, this direct and highly controlled way of working is what makes needle felting so fascinating.
